The Ten Steps

1
COIN
D2 — Yield

Physical Activity

Circle up. Each participant 'flips the coin' — commits to the session by stating one thing they want to learn or do today.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Open Minecraft. Set a session goal on a sign at your base. Screenshot it as your commitment.

Farmcraft Connection

What will you grow today? Name a specific crop, technique, or research question to pursue.

D2 Coin/Yield — The opening commitment. What you invest determines what you harvest.

2
MUSIC
D12 — Ether

Physical Activity

Listen to the land. Sit quietly for 2 minutes. What do you hear? Birds, wind, traffic, water? Use a sound map to record.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

In Minecraft, find a quiet spot. Turn up volume. Listen to the biome ambience. Compare MC soundscape to real one.

Farmcraft Connection

Acoustic ecology of the farm. What sounds does a healthy farm make? What does silence mean? What does birdsong indicate?

D12 Ether/Music — Attunement before action. The land speaks if you listen.

3
GATHER
D8 — Air

Physical Activity

Observation walk. Identify 3 plants using iNaturalist. Collect samples (leaves, seeds) with permission. Record in journal.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Explore your Minecraft biome. Collect materials. Inventory what is naturally available before you start building.

Farmcraft Connection

What grows here already? Before planting, understand what the land offers. Research First Foods of your area.

D8 Air/Gather — Reading the landscape. The gather is not taking — it is listening with your hands.

4
CRAFT
D4 — Fire

Physical Activity

Build something with gathered materials. Weave a simple mat, press flowers, start a compost pile, process fiber.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Build time in Minecraft. Construct your farm structures, process materials, craft tools. The main building session.

Farmcraft Connection

Transform raw materials into something useful. This is where crops become food, fiber becomes cloth, wood becomes shelter.

D4 Fire/Craft — Transformation through making. Fire turns raw to cooked, ore to metal, seed to harvest.

5
QUEST
D20 — Water

Physical Activity

The expedition. Walk to a new area. Visit a farm, garden, or natural space you have not been to before.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Explore beyond your farm in Minecraft. Follow a river. Find a new biome. Discover what is over the next hill.

Farmcraft Connection

Food sovereignty is a journey. Research one question deeply. Follow the water — where does your food come from?

D20 Water/Journey — The adventure of discovery. Roll the D20: high roll = bold exploration, low roll = careful study.

6
REST
D6 — Earth

Physical Activity

Sit on the ground. Eat a snack (ideally something you grew or gathered). Feel the earth beneath you. Breathe.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Set your Minecraft character to rest. Plant something. Tend your garden. Slow, deliberate actions only.

Farmcraft Connection

The soil rests in winter. The field rests between plantings. Rest is not absence of work — it is the work of restoration.

D6 Earth/Garden — Grounding. The earth holds everything. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

7
PLAY
D10 — Chaos

Physical Activity

Unstructured time. Play a game, tell a joke, do something unexpected. Play Slahal if you have bones and sticks.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Free play in Minecraft. Build something weird. Experiment with redstone. Play a minigame. No rules.

Farmcraft Connection

Chaos is where innovation lives. The best farm ideas come from play, not plans. What happens if you try something new?

D10 Chaos/Play — The wild card. Probability, chance, experimentation. Not everything needs a plan.

8
MAP
D100 — Order

Physical Activity

Journal time. Draw a map of what you explored. Fill in your K-W-L chart. Record observations and data.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Screenshot your builds. Write captions. Update your farm documentation. Map your Minecraft world.

Farmcraft Connection

Data sovereignty. Document your research in your own way. Create phenology wheels, crop calendars, build logs.

D100 Order/Map — Making sense of experience. Counter-mapping: telling the story the dominant map leaves out.

9
YIELD
D2 — Coin

Physical Activity

What do you take home? A plant cutting, a recipe, a new word, a drawing? Name your yield out loud.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Save your world. Export screenshots. Write one sentence about what you built today.

Farmcraft Connection

The harvest. What did you produce? A Minecraft build, a blog post, a video, research notes, a K-W-L entry?

D2 Coin/Yield — The return on your opening commitment. Did you grow what you set out to grow?

10
CLOSE
D12 — Ether

Physical Activity

Gratitude circle. Each person names one thing they are grateful for from today. Close with a word or a song.

Digital Activity (Minecraft)

Place a sign in Minecraft with today's date and a gratitude message. Screenshot it.

Farmcraft Connection

Thank the land, the team, the tools. Farming is relationship. Close the session by honoring those relationships.

D12 Ether/Music — The closing vibration. What resonates after the session ends? What will you carry?
